Default Strapping down ?

which do you prefer to strap down. on my deuce in can put the tie down through the tripple trees rather than hook to the handle bar. is that a better choice ? i seen the bike come from harley this way.

I usually go from the handle barsunless the bike has risers such as a deuce, then I go from the trees.Ifully compress the forks. I would not tie from the bars if it had risers. I would add towel under the hook or strap for protection. I use several straps front, middle and rear for security.

I've been told that you should NOT fully compress the forks, but should leave room for them to work. Some say you should only compress them a couple inches.

I hook ratchet straps to the plate between the two downtubes and compress only about a third of the fork capacity. Then two on the side of the frame in front of the rear wheel and pull them forward. The ones on the front then just have to keep the bike upright. Did this from Charlotte to PA and back. about 650 miles each way. No issues and I felt that it was not hard on the forks. I set a zip tie (not too tight) on one fork so that I could see in my mirros how far the suspension had travelled as I went along. This at least told me the max travel when I stopped to check things over.

My 2 cents, forget the bars. They are not designed to carry the load of the whole bike, as opposed to the frame which is. It worked nicely on my last trip. Here is a pic of it strapped and ready to go. The yellow strap on the back was later moved forward to hook in the same place as the red one on the front. Same for the left side of the bike.

I know it's a shame to put them on a trailer, but sometimes it's a necessary evil.
