Hello, does anyone have experience doing the 5000 mile service on a 2018 street bob? I'm debating on trying to do it myself or taking it to the shop. I don't really have any tools for it but the HD shop is going to charge over $500.
What Rk classic said... youll have to invest a little initially on a service manual and some special tools but its well worth it. Id never worked on a motorcycle before and had no problem doing my own 5k service
Do it yourself. Its super easy and paying the dealership $500 is insane. You can do it for about $65-$75.
If you don't have a service manual, get one, it will pay for its self the first time you use it.
You can also go on Youtube and search for videos of how its done. There are literally thousands of them and most will show you step by step and tell you what tools you'll need.
Have fun, it is so rewarding doing something like this yourself. The pride of doing it feels even better when you realize you saved over $400 by doing 30 minutes of easy work yourself.

Keep a log of every service you do on the bike, and keep receipts for all oil, filters, gaskets, etc. That way if there's ever an issue about keeping with the factory maintenance schedule you'll have the proof.
Buy a manual and follow the 5k check over recommendations. Learn how to do things and you won't be so intimidated when something goes wrong when you're away from home. I ride an 8 year old Victory Cross Country that's never been back to the dealer other than a recall. I have a manual and other than a blown engine or a nasty electrical issue, I'll fix it myself. This is a good time to get to know how your bike works.
At least have the valves checked out or serviced on
yeah, you want to make sure that your knuter valve is working properly. and also check to make sure that your blinker fluid still has enough computronium in it. if the levels get low, the blinking slows down.
op- it isn't particularly difficult and doing it yourself can save you some serious bucks. bucks that you can use for more bike parts
