I would say screw 70, Take 40/64 in and then hop on 94 and head out to Defiance, at least then you can hit up Defiance Roadhouse or Terry & Kathys. That's a great riding road in my mind. And you could enjoy the scenery while taking 94 to 47 back and hit I-70 back in Warrenton. At least, that's what I would do.

Give it a few weeks and the Great River Road will be back open. There's many good places to eat in the Alton area, BonAire, Chubby's, Mac's Time Out and the Regal Beagle (Ropers). These places are open and unaffected by the flooding. Lots of eating and drinking places in Grafton too. Got to stop by the Hawg Pit if in Grafton.

You can take 70/270 all the way to 3 which also runs close to the Mississippi, then stay on that till you get to 143 which would be a left exit there. You could also get on 143 a lot earlier, but I don't think I have ever been on it that far out so I don't know how the traffic would be. That will take you into Alton where you will want to get on 100 aka Great River Road or aka Mc Adams Parkway. The Brussels ferry is about a mile or two on the other side of Grafton. I'm going off memory, but I think the Golden Eagle Ferry may be about 7 miles away from the Grafton ferry and they have plenty of signs to point your way. It looks like the current Google Maps satalite views were taken at high water stage, but the water is not usually that high. However it does flood easy, so check before hand for road closures or if we have had any big rains the end of July. I know I've went out on rides not thinking of where I'm headed to eventually get up that way and have to turn around and go back the way I came.

The city of St.Louis is just like Beirut ! The surrounding counties are getting bad too. This use to be a nice safe city until the Thug element moved in.
Can't say it any nicer than that !

There is no way i would attend any sporting events or anything else in the city of St.Louis. If you get out with your life you will be lucky if your car is still on the parking lot. Stay out of this city if you value your life.

To everyone bashing ST Louis why the hell do you live here. Yes there are some bad areas like any major metro but the city is not that bad.
You must all live in St Charles or the sticks and never get inside the 270 loop

I'm pretty sure the Lake of the Ozarks isn't in North County.

Pot, meet kettle.

I also have a house in St Louis County and work in St Louis every couple of weeks. Hell I grew up in New Orleans and had to work in two of the worse housing projects in the city back in the 70’s

Many in St. Charles left North County 20 years ago when it got bad. "Urban flight" and all that. And most (if not all of us) work there (St. Louis) every single day.

If you don't know there are areas of St. Louis to avoid, I wouldn't stop a lot.

That said, I have lived here most of my life. I've had multiple opportunities to leave, but I like living here. I travel a lot for work, so I can honestly say that while we have our "bad areas" just like every other major metropolitan areas, ours are in "mini-scale" compared to many other large metro areas. Except for the City of St. Louis (north side) - the murder statistics there don't lie.
