Why not prime the lifters?

I do with most of the engines that I build.

Depends on tuner. SERT was 500 12 years ago. But there are other tuners. Plus dyno time is good idea. Granted people were doing it before dynos.

I agree with you, but it is not chicken feed either.

Add in new lifters (highly recommended), pushrods (sometimes you will need new ones, depending on the base circle of the new cams), inner cam bearings, new gaskets, etc, and you'll be knocking on the $1k door pretty quickly. I don't think I'd do a new cam install without all the preceding.

Plus $200 to buy all the special tools needed for the job that I didn’t have. Bearing puller, ect. Plus $100 in gaskets,at least 50 bucks in new fluids. **** adds up QUICK
