I will be retiring in about 4 or 5 months. My wife and I are planning on riding the Trace from Nashville area to Natchez. We are looking at late May or early June time frame and are going to take about a week for the round trip and back to central Ky. Any recommendations for places to stop and places to stay would be appreciated. We haven't been on the Trace before, nor have we ever been to Mississippi. Round trip will be well over a thousand miles. Super excited to go!
I really enjoyed Mississippi. Son and I rode down from Memphis through the delta region- Clarksdale is the real blues region! Juke joints and all!! Maybe you could work out a loop that gives you Natchez trace one way and delta through clarksdale on the other. We also managed to get some Ozarks in the mix (bentonville and eureka springs (pig trail).

Planning to do the same thing around the 1st or 2nd week of June, leaving from LaGrange, KY myself so I'll be following this thread.
I live near it and ride along sections of it often. Try to visualize the ancient plank version of it - I can't wrap my mind around the number of trees needing to be felled to plank and maintain those old traces. As an avowed history buff, the Meriwether Lewis site is the highlight for me. The whole story of the man, his accomplishments and tribulations, and his life cut short - what a story of real life to contemplate. The downside of the Trace: the speed limits. Don't be in a hurry - but it's not for knee-dragging - it's for taking it easy and enjoying nature and history. By the 440'th mile you will have burnished the mating surfaces of your 4th gear set to a high sheen.
About an hour before you get to natchez, get off the trace and check out the vicksburg military park and there is another nice park at grand gulf near port Gibson 20 minutes south of vicksburg on the way to natchez, just south of port Gibson is Windsor ruins and it's the most visited site in the whole state then you have the ghost town of rodney in between port Gibson and natchez. Both vicksburg and natchez have pretty good restaurants downtown and port Gibson area has some nice bed and breakfast homes and mr Ds old country store in lorman just south of port Gibson is world famous for its fried chicken

I've done the southern part of the Trace a few times, but never stopped overnight. I'm trying to plan a round trip for next spring some time. Will follow this thread for input on places to see/stay.
Rode from Nashville to Tupelo last June. Great ride, but difficult to abide by the speed limit (40). No tickets, but I had to prove to the Officer that followed me for two miles that I could.
