Default MSF BRC is great

I completed my BRC today and I have to say it did me a lot of good. I haven't done alot of riding before and the little bit I did I picked up some bad habits. This course helped me alot and I would recommend it for anyone getting into riding. Another plus for me is it was free and I am now getting a discount on my insurance so nothing but upsides.

Yeah, I took Harley's BRC a while back. Even if you already ride, I found that there is some really great things to learn from that course. Definitely worth the price of admission.

OP~ Congrats on successfully completing your BRC.
The skills you just learned are perishable, so they must be practiced frequently.
The more you ride, the more you learn. It is never ending.
Ride safe!

Agreed, when I decided I wanted to start riding my first stop was the MSF course, I went from never riding to being able to ride a motorcycle in a matter of 2 days. Bonus I didn't have to take the riding portion of my license but mostly I think it helped me learn how to do low speed maneuvers and have confidence in my ability. Well worth the 150 bucks or whatever it was I spent on it.

I learned how to ride long before there was a MSF-BRC.
Back then you learned between sips of beer... this is the clutch, this is the foot brake, hand (front) brake... now start kicking the bike...
when it starts we'll begin lesson #2

Fast forward 40 years, I was talking to a new rider who was struggling with his bike. I suggested he take the BRC class, as learning from instructors who were trained, might be better.
He asked "did you take the class"
No I had not, was my reply
Then in a huff, said well how do you know it's any good???

So I signed up, and took the class.
I had a lot of fun, and even learned that I had some strong skills, as well as a few weak ones.

and a discount, on my insurance

The add on this that I would recommend is the Motorman Jerry course series. There are lots of real world situations visualized and even if you learn just one thing, its worth it. I spent a few hours in front of the computer and a few good lessons thee that were not in MSF..

Call me dumb, or dense, but I never realized it was OK to ride the clutch so much, which is one of the keys to riding at very slow speeds. I also never really knew about countersteering, which I was introduced to in the BRC.

Ive been watching some motorman, and other videos, common mistakes, clutch control, etc. reaffirms what many of us learned on our own, w/o being formerly taught. We can usually find something we didnt understand well, for me it was trail-braking and how it relates to frame geometry and optimizing friction of tires to ground.

A couple things I never fail to mention are "life saving" skills.
One being the quick stop.
Another being swerving.
These two skills need to be practiced often if you want to become proficient.
Limited space maneuvers can also be. I practice this one mostly because it's just plain FUN!
