I may be mistaken but I am pretty sure in the CVO section of the factory, each CVO bike is built by hand from start to finish by the same two guys/girls. Essentially they start their shift get a frame and start from scratch moving the bike through each station following it to completion. Whereas there is a team of assemblers for all the other factory bikes.

Personally I don't know if the peace of mind knowing there was some decent attention to detail during the assembly is worth the extra premium one must pay, but you cant say its not there. So there is some intrinsic extra value from that perspective of the CVO line of bikes.

CVO'shavebeen produced by two man teamson anotherassemblylineinYork, Pennsylvania since 2001.

CVO's are indeed like fine collectables.

Here's part ofan article from Motorcycle USA dot com.

For the uninitiated, CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations. The CVO department at the Motor Company is a relatively small "skunkworks," which, since introducing the first CVO FXR2 in 1999, has been producing small numbers of very special Harley-Davidsons, whose street names might be more familiar to you as the "Screamin' Eagle" bikes.

All models of Screamin' Eagles have three things in common: they have hot performance engines, they have enough stylish brightwork to outfit a dozen rap artists, and they're hand-built in limited numbers like fine collectibles. So I was really anxious to meet the guys who come up with these bikes each year.

If Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor was a motorcycle guy, instead of a car guy, he'd be perfect to head up a CVO team. That's not to say these guys spend all day standing around grunting like pigs; sometimes they sit down. But seriously, if you mention words like performance, torque, or horsepower, you'll get more than a few knowing hog snorts out of this crew. Use words like billet and chrome, and you'd better have your sunglasses on, or you'll be blinded by the glint from their eyes and gleam off their shining teeth. Yeah, all these guys have a terminal case of "Screaming Eagle-itis" and they ain't looking for a cure.

Who would? They have the best jobs in the company and they know it. They're the "what if" guys. They sit around with each other and say things like, "What if we got 20% more power from the stock motor?" "What if we put a fatter swingarm and tire on that model?" "What if we covered the tour pack in leather?" Or, "What if we build a line of small-displacement, fuel-efficient motor scooters?" Okay, so that guy is working in the shipping department now, but you get the idea of how cool it would be to brainstorm about how you can take a cool bike and make it a really, really cool bike. And then to have the juice to tell the engineers, just get it done! Yeah, life is good for these wild and crazy guys.

From the _official_ HD web page ...

In 1999, in response to riders' demands for exclusive factory-customs, Harley-Davidson launched the Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) program. Providing low volume models infused with an abundance of chrome, the program aimed not merely to fulfill the dreams of motorcycle customizers, but to inspire them. Each CVO model featured unique paint schemes and accessories, creating demand that far exceeded limited production. You could add your own personal touches on a CVO bike, but the advantages of the CVO program were diffi

Saw one recently on the local dealer's showroom. Absolutley beautiful. I can see where someone would drop the $ for one before an off-brand custom bike if that's the type/style you are into.Myself, I wouldn't be jealous or think anyone was mentally deficiant if they got one. I'd be pretty happy for them knowing that someone is enjoying that bike.

Ain't tring to bust no ones chops here just wanted to know any one else thought the same way. Some people pay up to 35,000 for them cvo bikes when you buy a stocker and take the rest of the money and make it run and look better and make it how you want it. if you pay that much you are not going to change it much. so if you going to a ralley there might be ten just like it there! so is there some thing i'm missing or these guy's have more money than brains? sorry about the rant
Give it enough time and this thread will become one HUGE flame war!! You might want to go back and edit your post before everyone reads it. Those CVO guys are really tough. I hear if you **** them off they will pay people money to do things like mess up your hair or kick you a s s, I don't remember which.

CVO bikes are the best of the HD product line. If a guy has the money to buy a CVO bike, my guess is that they have the brains to make the $$$ it takes to buy a CVO bike.

Lots of folks say I'm a soft. I bought mine because I wanted it. I didn't have to wait for the motor to be redone, it has everything on it, yet I've already started adding things that make it mine and even the dealer treats me like I've got something special. Oh yeah, I did pay msrp cause that's my dealers policy. Nothing over msrp![sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Allright guess it's just me and my buddys. seen quiet a few of them and id rather check out the rat ironhead bobber put together by some guy, than look at the cookie cutter custom the company puts together. and i don't buy the whole put together better thing ether. my 94 evo still runs like new with 60,000 on it and my old mans 99 lowrider has 80 some on it with no problems. to me it's a rubsdream.
