What's the deal with the Harley release date in mid January vs the competition in mid October??? I was told that Harley is going to continue the January release in the future. Otherwise if the date is due to the Corona virus and goes back to October then, 2021 buyers would only own a current model year for nine months. I don't see how that can work in either case.

well, you can look at it this way. if hd releases their new bikes in jan, then when spring riding season hits, there is still that element of enthusiasm for the new bikes. whereas the competition has released their bikes in oct, so by now they are old news....
I would be curious going forward how this type of release schedule impacts the late fall to winter month foot traffic and sales in dealerships? Surely it will dwindle much faster now. Popping out new bikes across the year is to me a better means of staying in the news and keeping customer traffic up
H-D made many statements in the past that going forward the release dates will now be January. It is not Covid related.
@GlidingJoe stated, January is the new release period for new model year bikes. This will drive bike sales earlier in the beginning of the new year just in time for Spring riding. I think it is rather clever since in Ocotober, riding season is just about over for cold weather states and because it is right on the heels of the holiday season. The holiday season makes it a little difficult to justify spending money on a new bike with all the money that is spent on food, travel, and gifts. With the holidays out of the way and Spring right around the corner, I think this is a smart decision.
