I bought another bike from a dealer early last fall. I financed part of it. Its been a hassle since basically day 1 getting tags/registration. Now yesterday I got a letter from Harley Finance. I have until March 5th to give them a title. Listing them as the lean holder. Or it implies that theyll come get the bike. I called and tried to explain. I dont have it. The dealer will do nothing to help. Other than at one time they did send me another temp tag. Ive been paying more than the small payment due each month. They do not care. I give them a title by March 5th. Or March 6th Repossession process starts. And it will go on my credit report as such.
I have been getting those letters since August. I answer them, but they never seem to get my responses. The Dealership just blows them off. I finally should have the required paperwork to get them the title. It took forever to get an "Original" death certificate; I bought from an estate.
Dealers sell bikes all the time without a title in hand. Example you trade in your bike that has a loan. The dealer then should pay off the loan and wait for the paid off title. But in reality they will show and sell that bike ASAP. In your case the title may still be tied up in the estate and the dealer is still waiting on it. To get some relief I would contact the state license dept with your sales paper work and get them Involved. I'm betting the dealer will be getting a call from them as I'm guessing they are violating a couple laws not providing you a title within x days.
Contact your state attorney generals office and explain the situation. The AG should contact the dealer on your behalf, that should get dealers attention, they usual respond to those calls. I had to do it once with a dealer many years ago, the dealer was very responsive and sorted it out in a matter of days.
I got one of those letters in January 2021 about a bike I purchased in September 2020, The dealer I purchased the bike from did not send the mothership a copy of the title showing HDFS as the lien holder. I simply had to take a picture of the title showing them as the lien holder and email it to them. I had my copy of the title since early October that clearly shows HDFS as the lien holder. I would think it should fall on the dealers head, but that isnt how it really seems to be.
