Default New bike

well next year anyways. The wife gave me approval to make the upgrade when I return from Iraq next year. Right now the Sporty is set up strictly for solo riding. She wants something she can hop on. So Im thinking Roadking classic, or Soft tail Delux. Im keeping the sporty for back n forth to work, around town and what not. The new bike will be for long distance riding which is what I do most of and it is a pain in the *** on the sporty after a few miles. If yall could offer some insight, pro's n con's, that would be great. Thanks in advance

For two up you want either a EG Classic, Ultra, or a Road glide fitted with the tour pack. If she wants to ride, give her that Lazyboy (as my wife calls it).

Hi,

I think you will find that once you get a nice bagger, that you'll ride it even by yourself more than the Sporty.....the big bikes are so smooth and nice....[&:]

IMHO, there are several models you should look at. My personal favorite is the Road Glide. Never rode one, but the fairing is mounted to the frame rather than the forks, so very sturdy, looks good

The Electraglide Standard is a good way to go, since you save alot of $$$ by skipping the black and chrome engine, and get a basic FLT with the bags, etc. and you can get it in any color you like, so long as it's black!

ANY FLT is great!!! The Ultra is the King of the Highway!!!! Think of it as a Goldwing with CHARACTER!

If I ever get a new Harley again, it'll be an Electraglide Standard, and add the Ultra "shin guard"fairings, and fork and lower fairing windwings!!! The only thing it'll need besides that is a hydralic primary chain adjuster for maintenance free operation, and an Andrews T-37 Gear drive cam setup, to get rid of the chains!! Oh, and a solo seat and rear end lowering!!!!!

P.S. since you'll be deployed, you can buy it through AAFES and save a couple grand as well!! Then sell the sporty, and the combination of the two will put you in good shape debt wise on the FLT!!!

That's a tough question, because I like them both and they seem to be popular choices.

I say...........get a bagger, any bagger you like the best. The options of removable items for the passenger offer you choices as to what kind of riding your up for on a givin day. Personaly I went with the Road Glide and love it. I also went with the removable options and cant be happier.

Hey Mac, Ive pretty much decided to re-enlist. I leave tomarrow for Iraq, Ill re-enlist over there for the Iraq incentive, which is $15,000 grand on top of my re-enlistment bonus. Ive thought pretty long and hard about it and money is not everything. I dont think I could find a civillian job that I like as much as the ARMY. Ill take my time going through school, Ive changed my degree plan to History. That I can do entirely online. and after I retire Id like to go through MMI. That way when the time comes I could either be a teacher or a HD Mechanic.

Anyhow thats the plan for now.

thanks everyone for the advice. Im set on the Road King classic. Im gonna look at AAFES has to offer over there. When I was in Korea 01-02 there selection on bikes was slim pickins.

It's nice to hear that you were able to narrow it down to the RK, I've seen a number of them that I like. Do you have your mind set on any particular color yet? I think that it would be fun to be a HD mechanic if I was to go back to school.
