Dealers these days will tell you almost anything. I was travelling the other day and stopped by a dealership on my way. Salesguy saw me pul in and said, hey, are you here to trade your trike for a new tri-glide with the military star.
I said, no thanks, my trike is a 21 and I just had the kit installed. He continued to say that they could give me a pretty good price because they would send mine directly to auction. I responded - auction - if i traded this thing would not last two minutes on your floor.
He then said, well, unless it is 100% Harley, we would never put that on our floor. I thanked him, went inside to the restroom, got some water and didn't even buy a t-shirt like we usually do when travelling
Why would you pick for your username a serial killer who murdered and skinned women, and made masks, belts, lamps, and who knows what from their body parts?
Returned to the dealer for a clarification of what I heard to confirm and learned more.
The mothership has decided to require all dealers to purchase expensive software that must be used when taking in a bike for trade. The software requires the dealer be able to inform the mothership of all the bikes services performed by them. Even entered into a national data base. If your trade has not been serviced by a HD certified mechanic , there is no entry. So, if your 1K, 5K, and 10K were performed by the owner, they are not listed as services performed, per the mothership. We can ditch those receipts and proof of purchases. In conclusion. If your services were not performed by an HD certified mechanic and entered into their data base, your trade in is not wanted. Check with your dealer.

I am about due for my monthly call from my dealer, asking to buy or trade my bike, I will ask.
Last time he called they offered me what I paid for it in 2019 for a MSRP trade on a new SGS
This seems to fly in the face of the Right to Repair push that is going on. But the heck with them. I buy my bikes in the used marketplace, and that's where I'll sell them.
Harley is putting together this Certified Pre Owned bs to make their over priced used bikes more favorable to buyers than buying somewhere else.
I don't see where the history of the bike matters, probably just makes it easier for the dealer to get a certified rating.
