The assembly plant was shut down for three months during the pandemic, therefore there was a lot of production in process and many unfilled orders which led to the three month extension of the model year which happened to be close to calendar year end. Please note, I live three miles from the factory and know numerous moco workers (past & present) whereas your location (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is a 14-hour flight. Ill stick with my theory and facts but you do make a valid point.
you make a fair point on the MY extension, but if that was really the reason, why wouldnt the company then return to July/ late August as it has always been?
Uf the problem was really that, they wouldve gone back to the usual schedule .
as for the backlog orders, HD has plenty of capacity to deal with that demand (as weve recebtly seen the two week shutdown due to brake line problems) - this last example both Gina Goetter and Edel OSullivan stated that even though the production was impacted in that quarter the company eould increase production to meet their target.
Jochen Zeitz stated several times on investor calls that the reason for the shift was to better align with the riding season (he actually said that).
now, the fact that you live few miles from the factory and Im in Brazil, may give you advantage of having insider information whereas Im working on facts presented and statements given by the company leadership on different occasions.
why wouldn’t the company then return to July/ late August as it has always been?
It has not always been. The company changed it to September years ago, long before the pandemic. Levatich made that change (or might have been before him). The release was changed to January a couple of years ago, and no indication that its temporary. Makes more sense to release in January, if you ask me.

Ive been followinf the release since the 90s . To be more precise 1996, when HD launched its 1st website.
At that time, the new MY would appear on the second half of July (My browsers homepage has been HD.com since that time.. so thats how I got to see as soon as it went on - it was usually on a Sunday).
Few years later, it was moved to the weekend prior Sturgis, then at Sturgis and later on, the weekend after this was the latest, until Jochen Zeitz move to mid-January.
Great news, HD dropped Black for any 2023 bikes that may get produced, I have heard that they are only doing anniversary models and cvo models for the 23 model year and probably will not reach dealers until April.
One last was that total production will only be 10,000. Bikes

You forgot your <Sarcasm> </Sarcasm> tags
I'll take 1 CVO Limited and 1 Anniversary Limited in anything except black.

I just hope they have something special up their sleeve for the anniversary because another ****ing paint job. Spamming paint jobs pretty much states they have no innovation in the big twin cruiser segment anymore. the design is nearly a decade old now and the chassis excluding the suspension older. the tech is behind every single touring competitor it is no longer excusable

I subscribe to Matt Laidlaw's YouTube channel. Prior to the virtual reveals of late, he would do a live feed from the dealer show where new models were initially revealed to dealers in attendance. Matt's live feed for the 2020 model year reveal was held on 8/20/2019. Prior years live feeds from Matt also had an August date. The new models would show up on the MOCO's website the same day, shortly after the dealer show reveal.
