Default Help approaching possible warranty issue.

I took my 07 VRSCAW in afew months ago for a laundry list of things I'd like the dealer to fix under warranty. Odometer switch, leaking brake and clutch masters, inaccurate fuel sensor, and the rear brake caliper. Everything was fixed no problem except the rear caliper. The problem is the metal screen on the Brembo brakes was apparently loose enough to vibrate deep grooves into the caliper. Looking at the screen, its cracked, and the caliper is scarred. Service writer states that all V-rods do it, and HD will not warranty it. My front brake is exactly the same, and it does not have a mark on it. I intend to ask him to provide the written refusal that HD will not warranty.
I know that the fuelsensors has been an issue, and their head mechanic told me they have replace every one of them on the07's that they sold. So if they are fixingall of thefuel sensors, why not the brake calipers if allof them are doing it. Seems to me he is trying to smoke one by me. What can I do?

Thanks,
Woody

Ask for a "sit down" with the service manager, put your issues on the table and give him the oppurtinity to help you.

Punisher:

The same kind of situation happened to me over the summer - I had a repair I thought should have been covered, but it was refused - and I got them (HD) to cover it. You can do a search in the forums for my thread: Spoked wheel fails. Long story short - The spokes failed on my rear wheel and the dealer said that HD refused to cover the repair/replacement. I found out that - once a month - HD holds a 'policy review' meeting that you can present a case for them to make an exception to their policies. I had the dealer file the necessary paperwork and I called the main office and e-mailed a letter explaining my reasoning. They - HD - ended up changing their mind based on my argument and covered everything.

I had to pay for the new wheel and mounting since I wanted my bike back ASAP, but I ended up getting a credit for the entire job. Of course, I spent the credit on a bunch of stuff I didn't really need...

Good Luck, Don

Drich - this sounds like information that should be tacked to the top of one of the boards, like specific forms, email addresses, etc. that someone with a warranty refusal issue would want.

How can they refuse to work on brakes?
Ask them if they will fix your head after you hit a car when the brakes fail?
Its a safety issue.
Discuss it civily with the service manager or take it somewhere else.
I think they have to fix it.

Thanks guys, I'll try to reason with the manager, then take it to the next step of contacting the district rep.
I appreciate the efforts.
Drich57, If you have contact info I'd be all ears.

What badwhine said is thebest answer. But you have to realize that there is a long list of things that Harley will not cover, even if it is a recurring issue(just like the car manufacturers). So most times it is not the dealerships fault.....you have to take the fight to Harley and when you do that, it really helps to have the Service Manager on your side, if at all possible.

Woody:

I had an issue with my 07 Classic. Three of the sprocket bolts backed out after 5,000 miles and caused some extensive damage. They wound up doing more than I expected to regarding the repair. Harley was not going to cover the swing arm because they said it was just scratched and could have been touched up but my dealer replaced it as well as the wheel and sprocket. Like Punisher said they know your going to spend it anyway. I wound up spending a boat load of money while I was there on 5K service and I put on a race tuner kit. I would talk to the service manager and if I get satisfaction I would than talk with the owner of the dealership. Good luck..

As stated above, having the service manager "in your corner" when you take the fight to the moco can only help. He is the one person that can help you and no service manager with a brain turns away legitimate warranty work. It is free money from themoco.
