www.carbonfiberbikerhelmets.com

These are the ACC helmets that everyone speaks of, I think. I got a black one from them, and I can honestly say that it's be best helmet that I've ever worn. It's made of the best stuff, extremely light, and doesn't give you that goofy mushroom head look. Their customer service is also top notch!

Check them out.

I've tried on the Daytonas and I've tried on the ACC's. Was disappointed in both, especially the ACC for the price. I just don't have one of those mugs that looks good in most any DOT approved half shell. I've looked high and low and finally found one I can live with a couple of weeks ago. It's not small but I wouldn't call any of them small when compared to novelty helmets. But, because it fits my head better than most, it's comfortable and looks decent. A couple of things to look for that I found that help are the straps and riding glasses. The thicker DOT helmets seem to not look so bad if they have nice padded wide straps mounted to the inner shell, as close as possible to the outside edge of the helmet. It also helps to try them on with the glasses you are going to ride with on. For some reason, that helps ease the shock of looking at thing on your head. I ended up with a Fulmer Hombre Softie black half shell helmet. It's strange because the store I bought it from had several different Fulmer half-shell models that all looked alike on the shelf but very different when I tried each on my head.

When it comes to these DOT helmets, if you aren't comfortable with the look or feel of many of them, you will have to try them on in person before buying them. I wasn't about to send $180 to ACC without trying one on first. They told me to find them at the iron braid booth at Myrtle Beach Fall Rally. I did and hated how they felt and looked on my head. Saved that $180 and only ended up spending $50 instead when I found one I could live with.

I am looking for a low-profile half helmet myself

Been trying to find some kind of retail store that sells Skid Lids but all my internet searches bring up is online sellers.

Anyone know if skid lid has a company website with a dealer finder? Id like to try one on before I buy it since you cant return helmets

+1 for the Vega XTS. About $50.00 most anywhere. Here's where I bought mine: http://westendmotorsports.com/ I tried one on at their shop and then ordered it on line. No tax and free shipping on orders of $99.00.

$30.00 dollar helmet for a $30 dollar head!! Don't want to start a helmet thread but if you want to use a salad bowl then does it realy matter. The bennies are better than nothing but not by much. If you don't care then just find the cheapest thing you can find (and there are some pretty good ones out there). If you do then get a real helmet. I really don't care what everyone else uses. Its all about choice. I won't give you crap for not wearing a helmet/or haveing a salad bowel on your head if you don't give me crap because I like a full face.

Might help to post somewhere where you are located. Ron Ayers Motorsports in Greenville, NC carries Skid Lids brand but what are the chances they are close enough to you without knowing where you even live?

I have the Biker's Choice skid lid. Beats my HJC on comfort and appearance.
I prefer a novelty and let my passenger wear the DOT.

Yeah, I liked that one too. It's the polo style, right? Do you have a pic wearing it? They are a nice fit and quality. Not that much bigger than ACC and way more comfortable too me.
