Default Damn! Close Call

I took the bike down off the stand and took a quick spin. Itfelt awesome to finally have a decent weather day to take her out. But of course damn near ended in disaster. I was passing a side street and a guy and his lady were in a truck coming out. The Fu$&er looked right at me and decided to pull out.[sm=nono.gif] I had to lock the brakes and the bike fishtailed but I was able to keep her up. The blood was really pumping let me tell you. I flipped the M*%F$%&er off and finished my ride.

I'm so glad that doesn't happen every time I take it out. What was the last close call you had and what did you do?

Glad you are OK. To answer your question how do I handle these

situations. I am 58 and try to avoid them by following a lot of rules.

Here are just a few. If I approach a car at an intersections. I will

give the bike a little wiggle, or flash the bright lights, and move

closer to the center line. Small things like this, may make the

driver aware of you. One of my friends bought a bike last summer.

He called me a puss, old woman, worry wort and a lot of other names.

For constantly nagging him about safe riding habits. Mid summer in

Stuebenville Ohio a woman came to a stop at an intersection. She

looked right at him, then pulled out. Almost killed him. Now he is

also a worrying old puss. If this helps save one person who reads it.

I will gladly wear the new nick of old worrying puss in this forum.

Ride safe all.

I'm a puss too when it comes to the other traffic out there. I can relax and feel that good ol' breeze in my face, BUT I'm always vigilant. I NEVER let my guard down while riding, and always advertise my existence as much as possible. Much like what JohnB445 was talking about.

If someone does get in my safe space or do something stupid... I usually just stare them down real good like. A lot of times I 'think' they feel pretty bad about almost killing me.

Glad you are OK and kept the bike upright. It seems like there is a certain zone or distance from an intersection where even if you make eye contact with a cager, they still think they can push their luck and make it out in front of you if they get on the gas hard enough. This is one more thing we all have to be on guard about.

My last close call was just a couple of weeks ago. Here is the link (i don't want to type up the whole story again) https://www.hdforums.com/m_2887659/tm.htm

Although not quite the same situation as yours, always remember that danger can come from all directions, even behind you!

Glad you kept it up on two wheels and finished the ride!!

Stay safe,

DD
