I ran over a small screw today in my front tire, saw it when parked the bike tonight. I pulled it out carefully, it doesn't seem to have penetrated the tube, and the tire integrity looks to be intact. Also, doesn't seem to be losing any air, will check again in the morning. But, there is that small hole where it penetrated the outer wall of the tire. Does anyone have any advice on this? Will the tire be okay, is there something that can fill in the hole, should the tire be replaced? Thanks in advance.
Replace it. A hole in the outer wall on any tire is bad news. Just remember they don't even patch car tires on the sidewall and they don't take as much abuse as a bike tire especially the front.
The obvious response is that tires are not a screw in part. That being said, a hole in the sidewall would make me replace the tire. A plug in the tread will work, a hole in the sidewall, replace it.
I guess it depends on how positive you are about the depth of penetration.... Is this a tubeless tire on a cast wheel? What type riding do you do? If that little voice insidesays it's concerned, then just replace it.
My wife kept complaining that I should replace the Bridgestone tires on my truck--yep those recalled models. I kept telling her that they looked great until a buddy had a blow out and was nearly killed. Then, I couldn't get new tires fast enough..... Better safe than sorry.
