Exactly.... The bike should be up to full temp. and not just warm when you drain it. You want all the particles in suspension. This is a dry sump folks.

I'm stuck in a hotel...it's 4:30am...I can't sleep - and have to be in meetings off/on thru the day.

I wish I had someone here to get my particles in full suspension. I'm not in the mood for a dry sump.

Take the bike on a 4-5 mile ride and get it up to operating temp before changing the oil.

Thanks all,
I didn't really think I needed to change oil prior to storage if it was going to sit in a heated garage. Next time.

Oh,... by the way, what's wrong with Syn3?

Why should you change the oil before storing? Simple - the products of combustion in your oil contaminate the oil and they are acidic. Acid likes metal. Not a good idea to let it set for several months even in a heated garage. Acid doesn't care what the temp is.

It's not the best oil you could use. I'm not even sure it's a full synthetic. I use Amsoil, but any good quality, FULL synthetic, is okay.
