I currently have an auction up on eBay selling my old 1991 FXRP saddlebags. Currently they're at $344.00 and earlier this week a set sold for $740.00. I'm wondering why somebody would want these ugly things? I originally kept them up in ceiling of my garage in case I ever sold the bike but now the bike is history after the insurance co. came and got it. I figured I'd get $50.00 for them because that's what they sold for about 3 years ago. If you don't know what I'm talking about see the pic below that shows them on the oribgnal bike.
FXR's were great bikes, and the FXRP in original configuration is probably pretty rare. I would guess that people with FXRP's are maybe trying to restore them to original condition for collector purposes.
FXRP's and FXRT's were great light touring bikes even though they were a tad on the homely side. All you P and T owners don't swarm me, it's just an opinion.

Well in that case they can have the original seat with the HD logo for a measley $1000.00. I also have the original gas cap for a mere $400.00.
I will agree with you on the quality of the bikes handling capabilities. The wife and I rode it from here in Wisconsin to S. Carolina and hit Deals Gap for kicks and grins and that bike handled GREAT even tho' it had the FXRT style fairing. Then the following year we rode it to Colorado and did Pikes Peak fully loaded and with the wife on and it did the mountain with no problems. The Kawa that was with us had to stop at about 12,000 feet because of clutch problems but the 2 HD's made it up and down without so much as a sputter!
I'm kinda curious about how the '98 Dyna Conv I recently purchased will ride? I'm hoping it's up to my '91 FXR's par.

My son had a 1992 FXR convertible, and my wife had a 1997 FXDL. I hope you are not going to be disappointed. With the possible exception of looks, I found the FXR superior to the FXDL
Darn it billnourse, I've read some things about the FXR/Dyna comparisons and I was hoping that didn't apply to the FXDS but I guess I'll have to learn some tricks to compensate for what it lacks. Thanks for the heads-up, I'm still looking forward to riding it as soon as the salt is off the roads around here. Maybe I'll make a full report in the FXR sub-forum about what it lacks and how to compensated (if it's possible).
The bags are ;and the FXRT's are cult bikes. They are ugly, but argualby the best mid range tourer the moco ever has produced.
My 84 FXR is raked, lowered and breathed on. It is far from an FXRT.
My Unks got a 93 Dyna and it kicks ***. It looks better than my FXR, but it doesn't handel as well in the fast stuff or the twisties, it does really well, but the Dyna just seems to wallow and flex more than the FXR. Just my biased opinion.
Cant find to much bad to say about mine.....
The Progressive 440's were a big improvement on the Rear vs. stock.
If I could find a fault..... it would have to be that the bike seems to feel "Light" at 75+ mph.
It will trade lines often without a concentrated effort to keep her tracking straight, but I figure that as the Sportty Tubes up front.
( And I dont often run the Super Slabs anyways... )
Never rode an FXR..... but hear the frame was a work of art.
All I can say.... is I aint disappointed !
Thanks for the replies guys. Now that I read your input I'm kinda leaning toward a fork brace and Avon Roadrunners or Venoms to help out in the stability dept. As for the frame flexing? Well I don't really know where to go here, I realize the FXR frame has alot more rigidity to it but I don't see any way to make the FXDS frame more rigid than it is so I guess I'll deal with it. My next bike will be another FXR for trips they are pretty cheap if you look in the right places.

I wasn't implying that an FXD was a disappointment. I think they are fine bikes. My wife had one for 6 years, I rode it quite a bit, and it was a great bike. Handled a lot better than the Heritage that she now has.
My comment about disappointment was based on going from an FXR to a Dyna. Especially an FXRP that has front air shocks if I am not mistaken.

But its my guess the pivot point for the swing arm being right on the back of the Tranny gives a different "Feel" on the FXD from the FXR.
The travel feels quite different than other bikes I've ridden.
I have to say "Different", and not worse or Better....
The suspension in general does its job well on mine..... Single or 2-Up.
