Bragging on a bike---What goes around
Jumpman--Great job! But,sorry I don't see the correlation. The guy had a bunch of take offs that he wanted out of his garage, the over stock at the dealer is written off.

Well...
I dunno what to think. I'm a big believer in karma - so watch your ***.
On the other hand, if there weren't stupid people in the world - I would not have gotten some of the deals I have on stuff in the past.
When I was looking for parts for my Road King build I called a guy on craigslist. He had various parts from a chooper build that he could not afford to complete. I was mainly interested in a set of spoke 'take-off' wheels he had from a 2001 - but told him I would take a look at the rest of his stuff too.
Well I get out to meet him, and he shows me the parts he has in boxes. I agree to buy the wheels and that I would buy a caliper/rotor combo he had sitting in a box. The wheels had been removed from a bike before it left the dealership..and the caliper/rotor were in 'like new' condition.
He said he wanted like $300 for everything and I told him I would go $150. I had cash - and he needed cash, so he agreed.
As soon as we got things loaded-up and hit the road - my Pops looked at me all crazy and asked why I bought the caliper/rotor that (he knew) I didn't need. I said "hold on, I need to make a phone call". I grabbed my cell phone and called a buddy of mine...
Well...The caliper/rotor was a chain-drive sproket/rotor/caliper combo from Exile Cycles and I had it sold for $400 before I got back to my house. My buddy was there with cash in hand when I pulled into my driveway
I did something similar at a dealership I visited. They had a rack of 'workingman special' parts all marked 75% off MSRP. I grabbed everything that I thought looked 'marketable' and ended-up dropping about $400 in parts. I was traveling for work at the time - so while I was driving I made some phone calls. I ended-up selling everything I bought - except a set of Streamliner floorboards (I put them on my bike) before I got home and collected near $900.
I just was smart enough in both cases to know what I was looking at - and was willing to take the risk (wasn't sure I could flip the stuff). The only difference was that I didn't have to get somebody drunked-up to do it.
Damn man, You want a job???????
LOL... really?

Yeah, I dunno fish - I didn't feel bad about making a profit off the H-D dealer prices...but I felt a little bad about undercutting the guy on the wheels & brake set-up. I could tell that he needed the cash - and had no idea what he had sitting there. I could have afforded to give him what he was asking...and still woulda made some $'s on the transaction. Like I said, I felt a little bad after that. BUT, like I said in my original post - I knew what I was looking at...and there is always the risk of not being able to make that 'flip'.

That having been said - I didn't really care for the wording used by 'panhead' either. There is nothing in this world that is more important to me than children. Those 'snotty nose dirty kids' have no say in the manner they are raised - and unfortunately, will most likely have to suffer thru much of their life due to being reared inwhat was clearly described as a 'less than desirable' environment. It's situations like this that provide the opportunity to be a 'good guy'...I prolly wouldhave asked one of those 'snotty nose dirty kids' to help load or unload the bike - and slipped the kid a $20...even ifhe/she wern't all that much help. Something like that - or having a couple of 'kids' DVD's to give to the guy (for his kids) when he came and delivered the bike. I wholeheartedly believe that some small gesture like that to help someone less fortunate can help a kid to see that someone thinks he/she matters.
