I might be in minority here, but I have some pretty big feel (13) and always found the heal shifter in the way and could never get comfortable.....grew up using just the toe shiter anyway....so I took mine off....put on the custom shifter arm and l love the look.
Well let's put it this way, I have 5 shift arm's sitting under the work bench in the garage. I think it is safe to say that I dont like them nor do I use them. I guess I am diffrent from the majority. As far as scuffing my boot's, I dont give a $h!t. I have one pair of boot's that I do everything in, ride, work (in the dirt), go out, or what ever.

I had a Heritage for ten years. the shift arm and screen came off it on the day I bought it and never went back on.
Yep the only time that stupid windshield is on is when it is raining. It makes it a little nicer to ride in the rain that way.
Grew up using the toe shifter. I removed the heel shifter from the last 3 bikes. It looks better without it. I use a shift lever made for a Dyna or a FX Softail, on my SG.

I have seen a lot of people say this... how the heck are you people getting your feet on the floorboards? I do not have big feet or anything but I back my heel up to the shifter all the time... and on long rides I will slide my foot forward under the other lever...
When I shift I actually move my whole leg... MOst of the time I will swing my toe off the board and up onto the front shifter peg to shift... Not like I just rock my foot in the middle or anything...
