Never had one and never saw the benefit. Until I got my R'Glide. Took me all of 100 feet to get comfortable with it. I find it's especially handy for finding neutral. It's kinda' like heated grips - you can't really appreciate it until you've actually tried it.
I guess it is just what you are accustomed to. But it seems to me that it is far better than ruining your boots. I would never be without my heel shifter!
