Default Heel Toe dilema

Being a new rider or should I say a re-newed rider from the eighties. Im having a hard time with the heel toe shifter on my Deluxe. Some have suggested I take the heel shifter off as it seems to be awkward. But I dont know if I should give it a while and get use to it or just go for it and remove it. Anyone else experience this challenge?

If you are accustumed to toe only, then take the heel off. When you get used to riding again you might want to put the heel back on. Better to ride safely, than to worry about the shifting.

Lower the rear shifter, try it for at least a week or two then decide what to do. I love it!

Keep it! Adjust heel shifter down and the toe shifter up! Fits the boots better! If you still have a problem go with the extended levers! I love mine and use them both! Also get the floorboard extenders from Harley Goodies, gives you more room for your boots or flip flops or whatever you wear! The heel toe shifter is harley style!

I could not get use to the heal shifter, so I took it off and have never looked back. I have extended my shifter two inches, same with the brake pedal. I moved the boards out an inch and forward two inches. Really made my Road Glide much more comfortable.

Thanks 128. Quite a mix of opinions on your thread. I guess it's a matter of preference. The damn things on there so tight, but I think I'll try lowering it and try to get in the habit. I shouldn't knock until I give it a good try.
Thanks to all for your input
cheers!

Yeah I would lower the heel and raise the toe.&nbsp\\; That is what I did after not riding for a long time and I have not looked back since

The bolt goes clear through and secures in a slot on the shaft.&nbsp\\; After removing the bolt, the levers should come off the shaft with a little nudging or a slight pry to the open end of the lever.

Once I pull the heel, is this where I need to cap the end? or should I move the toe outwards?
