I don't think I could ride without my heal shifter now. Just have gotten so use to it and I like the way my boot looks without the old scuff marks on the top.
Not sure why people remove them. I can't remember how to shift without my heel. You definitely can shift smoother using the heel-toe method. I guess those with giant feet would have a problem ...
For those of you who say that the heel shifter gets in the way of your foot, you need the Harley Goodies floorboard extentions http://harleygoodies.com/. They move the floorboard 3/4 of an inch out away from the bike and the heel toe shifter are just off the board allowing you to use the whole board.
That at least makes sense but.......are Harley people (politically correct) really that vain? I mean, the big bad dude with tats everywhere looks down at his boot, gets all wanked out of shape 'cause he's got a scuff on his boot??? Almost sounds like a Goldwing thing to me....
It's less about being vain and more about not wanting to ruin a pair of $400 boots. If you ride everyday, it doesn't take long for the toe look bad. That's just me. Some people don't care how there boots look or believe that it's cool to have scuffed shoes.
