I'm in the 300-500 range but I do everything myself, even tire changes. I ride 10-15k a year usually.

Keep out of the dealer and do the work yourself and don't buy into all the crap the dealership tries to sell you and its not bad at all.

No way! 5k-10k a year? I'd say 3 to 4 hundred bucks per 10,000 miles. That includes oil changes and tires doing the work yourself. Add 50 bucks for brakes (per caliper) if you're hard on them.

Most of the other maintenance stuff is check this, check that, adjust this, and doesn't cost anything.

Now if you're paying someone else then that's a different story.

EDIT: Sorry. Misinterpretted your 5k-10k ayear as dollars when you're actually referring to mileage. But the other post saying 18k-20k for three years I stand by my "no way". We're talking maintenance cost here, not the cost for mods or upgrades.

If you do service the bike yourself (at least for the trivial stuff), price are largely lower.
Pretty much oil and oil filters.

oil, GAS, tires, insurance, normal wear parts, etc....figure your cost to be 18 to 20 cents per mile. 40 mpg @$4 gallon, $300 for insurance, $200 for tires(1 front to 2 rear), $10/qt. for good synthetic oil, $20/qt. for tranny fluid, spark plugs, batteries, brake pads, and everything else that goes into keeping your bike in tip top shape. you guys are kidding your selves on the real cost of owning a motorcycle. double the costs if you buy everything at the dealer and let them do the labor.
18 to 20 cents per mile is a realistic figure to use.

While just about every post in here has some useful information on costs, the original question was "how much for maintenance costs"?

Fuel, insurance, adding chrome and/or other aesthetic and comfort features, tuners and other performance upgrades - these are not maintenance costs.

No, we just know how to read. Gas and insurance have nothing to do with maintenance. Riding from 79 til present I'm pretty sure I know what my maintenance expenses are. If your paying $10 a quart for synthetic your a fool. I buy it a case at time for Valvoline synthetic 20W50 and the price comes out to $2.80 a quart. Same goes for Tranny fluid. As for batteries, plugs and brake pads, if your changing them every year you need to seriously consider changing brands. I get 7-10 years from a battery. I run kevlar brake pads and they last about 2.5-3 years or 45k miles which ever comes first at the massive price of $30 a set of pads. Plugs? You can buy Champions for $4.99 a set when you need them or go high end for Pulse plugs at $33 a pair and they last $100k.

I really don't understand your cost. It is ridiculous. My costs I know exactly because I keep a log book for each of my motorcycles that shows the date, type of maintenance done, parts used, fluids, etc. And then I staple the receipts to the page.

How long have you been using the Pulstar Pulse Plugs my friend? How do you like them? I have been a distributor for about 1-year & 8 months. I hope your experience has been good. Ride safe. Have a good day, my friend.

If U leave it in the garage all the time, Then Nothing..

If U ride 20k a yr then, it could be $2500.00 if U have the dealer do all Ur services, tires, and brakes.
