This morning I received the report on my latest hip x-rays. Not good.
I've known for some time that a hip replacement was in the cards but was putting it off as long as possible. In June of '07 I had a cortisone shot in my right hip joint and I was pain free for almost 13 months. They gave me another shot this past Sept. but it was not successful at all.
I am now bone on bone in the hip joint. No fun....constant pain.
My question is: How many of you have had a hip replacement and how did it effect your riding?
I can't imagine giving up my Softail because of this.
My mother in law had hip replacement surgery last spring. She was walking with in 2 days and dancing and hiking in less than 2 months. She doesn't regret the surgery at all. Have a speedy recovery.
I feel your pain man. It's in the cards for me too, but what's worse is that I've got the big "A" in the joints in my pelvis. Yes, your pelvis has a joint between it and the backbone. That's what hurts the most in me.
Good luck, I think the success stories are building out there for sure.
Good luck and God Bless. Hope you get through this quickly and you're riding long and hard this summer. The sooner you get it done, the quicker you can ride.
I had a hip, femur, and knee all done at the same time in 88 (car accident). The hip was the least painful of the 3, so you shouldn't be out of commission for all that long.
my brother in law had double hip replacement...several years back and it made the difference between being invalid to now doing whatever the rest of us can do...speedy recovery so you can hop on your scoot again
My doctor told me that I would eventually need hip replacement surgery, but not for awhile. I will try to put it off for as long as possible. Whoever is doing the surgery should have a solid track record. The operation is not nearly as extensive as it was ten years ago, but you still want the starting quarterback working on you, not the 2nd stringer.

Due to an old motorcycle accident I had my right hip replaced in 1995. In 1996 I bought my first Harley - Fatboy. I rode this till I replaced it with a 2005 Anniversary Fatboy which I still have today. I will be needing a new hip replacement sometime in the near future, as i have worn out some bits in this model. I anticipate that I will still be riding again after my next hip replacement. Enjoy your replaced hip for as long as possible, no more major sports but i can ride all day with the best.
Good luck.....
Hey there ...I started riding in spring of 2000....I had hip problems but nothing that kept me from riding....I knew a total hip replacement was in mu future...in Sept of 2001 went on the Oyster Run.....pulled into a gas station to fill up and as I put my foot down I knew immediately that my leg would not support my bike, a sportster at that time, and down I went....well I went in and had my "Bionic Hip" done in Dec 2001....got back on my sporty 6 weeks later as soon as I was off crutches and cleared to drive my car...ooooops...called the doctor to confirm that I was cleared to ride the bike....seems I jumped the gun by 6 weeks.....so I waited another 6 weeks and haven't stopped since.....I now ride and '08 Deluxe that has over 13,000 miles on it! So go for the surgery...my only regret was waiting so long in so much pain that I had NO hip joint by the time I had it done. By the way...I am a female so if I can do it, so can you! PJ
