Default Road King Electrical Problem

Haveing electrical problems on 2000 Road King. Will loose its fire intermitantly, sometimes will start right back up, sometimes can take 30 min or longer before it will start back up. Mattery is new, have new voltage regulator and ignition module. Anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

Have you checked your battery cable connections? They might be deteoriated or loose. Just a thought?

Also check the conection to the key switch. You have to lift the dash to access it. My 2000 softail was doing the same thing and when I lifted the dash the connector to the key switch was loose causing an arc resulting in a melted connector. Good luck with it.

There is a starter relay that goes bad (it's a known issue), many carry a spare. I had the same problem and got stranded at near dark. Also with mine I found a hot wire that had come out of the male plug the relay plugs into...it about drove me nuts as it acted like an intermetant short. The part is cheap and the counter people almost know it by heart, I think...the part number is M923006.

My buddy has a 2004 Road King Standard. Yesterday he started it up and after a couple minutes it died, and everything went dead but the front fender tip lamp. We've tried to locate the problem, but no luck. Power to the switch, (it checks ok) and nothing after that. Suggestions? Thanks.

Change out the relay that is located under the seat in front of the battery. You can buy a replacement at most auto parts.

Thumbs up Defective 40 amp breaker.

Old thread, but I'll report my case anyways for future reference.
Had the same problem in a 2002 Road King. Intermittent power loss while driving, no load just coasting.
Turned out to be defective 40 amp breaker in front of battery. Also found reference to a Harley bulleting upgrading 40 amp breaker to 50 amp.
Scary when bike cuts out at highway speeds. Sometimes I was able just to flip kill switch off and on, and bike would fire back up again.
Up graded to 50 amp breaker, cured problem. No more cut offs to date. Hope this helps. Cheers.
