Default Heated vest sizing - advice

I need some advice on sizing for a heated vest or liner. I am looking at the Gerbing's or the Tourmaster Synergy heated liner or vest and according to the sizing charts that I have seen, I need a small sized. I am not able to find a place local where I can try on either vests or liners, so I am going to have to order one. My chest size is 43" and abdomen is 40". According to the Tourmaster size chart for the Synergy vests/liners, that equates to a size small. I understand that I need a vest or liner that fits snuggly, but a small seems, well, small.

So, those of you who have either of these, should I rely on the sizing chart? I wish I had some place local to try them on before I buy, but no luck.

I can't help you with direct experience with those vests but, you do not sound like a small to me. It would seem that you could get by with one that is not snug because you will be wearing a jacket over it and the jacket will keep it against your body. Personally, I prefer loose jackets and vests to snug ones.

Is there no dealership near you? I understand the HD heated stuff is made by Gerbings.

Think you read the chart wrong - says you should be between a Med and Lg.

It does need to be snug for best heat. Do you have a HD shop near you that carries heated vests? Most do, and the sizing is the same as they are all made by Gerbings.

If you have to order from Gerbings, you can always exchange it for the correct size, but sending it back would be a hassle.

I recommend the jacket liner instead of the vest. If you ever decide to add gloves, you won't have to run a wire down your sleeves everytime you put things on. The liner has the glove hookup built into the sleeve.

You DO NOT want your heated vest or jacket liner to be loose/baggy as it will not transmit heat to your body well at all. In fact it will feel like a cold spot where it is not in contact with your body. You want it to hug you but of course not be TIGHT just hug you close.

You sure don't sound like a small so I'd talk the manufacturer on the sizing issue just to be sure.

I've been happy with the Tourmaster Synergy. Don't forget you get the controller with the Tourmaster gear but not with Gerbings. This will cost you extra from Gerbings to get the controller. You definitely want to be able to control the heat so don't be tempted to do without the controller.

Let us know how you like it when you get your gear - it's wonderful stuff!

Gerbing has good detailed instructions on their site for measuring. Use a cloth measuring tape and have someone take the measurement. I used their instructions and when I found one I could try on it was just right. For the liner be sure and get the correct sleeve length in your normal riding position.

Also, Gerbing sizing assumes you will be wearing the liner over a single layer tee shirt, not a bulky long sleeve winter type shirt.

I like mine and go with the liner like was suggested. It keeps your arms warm and has the wiring for the gloves.

Thanks for the feedback. I did not realize that the HD liners/vest were made by Gerbing, but I was leaning towards the Tourmaster anyways. But, made the trek to the local HD and tried on a medium liner, which was too small. They didnt have a large to try on, so had to assume that a large would be the size to go with.

Anyways, placed an order for the Tourmaster synergy liner. Any comments on the Tourmaster synergy gloves?
