I can't believe the number that have voted YES. Why the hell are you still here then? The bike is worth everything if it makes me happy and it does.

The problem is if you pay $18k for a car you have a $18k car. Really, you're driving a POS. Not exactly the feeling I want setting down in my brand new car. It's the same reason I don't ride a Honda Shadow. When I walk out and climb on my Fat Bob I don't think about all the sacrifices I made to save a bit of money because I made none. If you want a true comparision it is the $7k Honda Shadow. That's the equivalent of that $18k car.

Default Good news...

Good news is that at least there's one couple out looking to spend for a new car!!

It's a sure bet that cable news will miss this rare opportunity to see the American consumer in the wild...

Yes, they're overpriced in terms of just material and cost. WAYY overpriced. You're paying for the brand. Of course, HD's not the only one that's perfected this ability; there are others out there who do the same thing very well. How many of you are logged on here with a Mac? How many of your wives have Prada/Gucci/Coach stuff? What about the "up-branded" cars that are, for all intents and purposes, a re-badged basic brand (Chevy/GM/Cadillac; Ford/Lincoln; Toyota/Lexus etc etc)?

It all depends on what you value. I bought mine because it fit, handled well and, to a small degree because it was a Harley. I tried lots of bikes but none were really what I was after, though one of the Triumphs came close for less. To some, if it doesn't say HD, it's not even in the game; to them, it'd be worth pretty much any cost and, sadly, even if it wasn't in their means.

Doubtful. Not these days. People have decided the "myth" isn't worth it and there are enough bikes out there that the market won't support that kind of inflated value any more.

But you're right about them being just plain fun!

The gal must be more important to you since you fixated on the "value" of a thing - the H-D. To me, mine is worth 20 gals and I won't take one home permanently but my Harley always has space in my garage. The day I don't feel the same about a Harley I'll sell it but I already have been fully disenchanted with money grubbing freeloaders who think a little gold mine between their legs gives them the right to get froggy with me. Let em think again.
Wow... just... wow.

Dude you need to calm down! Sounds like your selection of women in the past has not worked out! This is just a friendly discussion about what HD sells their bikes for. Do I think they are worth it? Yes!! Overpriced? Yes!! But they can get away with it because they have created this culture that alot of people have bought into. Have fun with the discussion and try not to blow a gasket or conjure up some bad memories.

As far as my wife goes! She is awesome!! The reason we are in this situation of being able to buy one for cash with no payments and the same deal with the car is because of her job. So yes, she is awesome!!!! Damn your luck!

No. There's $6,000.00 worth of steel, rubber, paint, and chrome in them. The other $11,000.00 goes to the union.

I can't believe how many voted yes either. The closer the competition comes to making bikes this size and style, the closer they come to these prices, so it's really a non-issue. I prefer riding mine every day there's no ice than driving a cage of a similar cost. Like the guy who started this thread though, it took my wife awhile to accept it.

Greetings,

Are they overpriced? Yep. Are they bad investments? Yep. Do I own one? Yep, and probably will be adding a second one to the stable sometime this year. It's just another one of the extravagances I can afford and don't mind blowing money on. Plus, it's just a lot of fun to pile the miles on...When the weather is decent the cage sits and collects dust.

So, I gotta read this one. Please tell me which bikes that are the same relative size, which have come closer to the Harley they look similar too in terms of price because the value isn't in the Harley, it's in the look a like. This is also the very reason I went with the Yamaha Roadstar over the Harley Softail. I had enough money left over to buy a new dirt bike 5 months later.
