Selling below MSRP....

Ok, heres the deal. With all this talk of how much you got off of MSRP, you have to consider a few things. I could tell you that I got 2000 off my new bike or I could tell you that I got 1300 off my new bike and both would be true at the same time. Its all perspective. I got 2000 off my new bike if you consider that I got low balled on my trade by 700 bucks. Now if you make all things even, I got blue book for my trade and 1300 off the new bike. So in the end I got the same amount of cash off the total price, but its just a perspective thing as I would easily give up 700 on a trade to get 2000 off MSRP. Just some thoughts for you all.

i don't think anyone here's talking about trade in pricing... at least not me.. i'm talking, walking in off the street and buying without a trade.. seems like there are deals to be made out there...

This is just in response to some of the different comments above: First, a dealer makes no more on an Ultra than they do on a Dyna. It's the same flat rate paid by Harley to the dealer on all big twins. The Sportsters are another flat rate and the VRods are another. Why is it done that way? Because the dealer does not pay for the stock sitting on his floor. He only pays Harley once it is sold.
Secondly: At MSRP the most a dealer will make on a big twin is $3,000, so if you get $1,500 off (as mentioned above), then you've done pretty good. A dealer could be hurting and willing cut into his 3 grand, but anything below $1,000 off MSRP should tell you that you've done a damn good job beating him down.
Third: If you see a sale for X amount of dollars in free accessories or $2,000 (or more) off ....especially in August........ those sales aren't coming from the dealer. Those sales are coming directly from HD because they want the stock moved and the dealer is not out any money (he still gets his flat rate for selling the bike)

Another bit of info from my local dealer. HD cut them back 150 bikes this year. They are not happy & they are a MSRP dealer. Fewer bikes sold means less profit. I wouldn't expect any discounts from them. They don't discount even when times are good! Luckily I have 4 other dealers within 40 miles.

Times are good in New Mexico for Harley. We tried to buy a '09 Road King and they wanted MSRP + $1,300.00 delivery fee + $400.00 document fee. They came off their delivery fee some, but not enough for us to buy. Wouldn't budge on the doc fee and wouldn't throw in any kind of gift card. Couldn't get a deal done but found an '08 with 400 miles on it somewhere else for $4,500.00 less. Sold!!
