Helmet size Large is apparently too big because at around 50mph it starts to lift off my friggin' head. But Medium is too small because I have to smash it down on my head to make it "fit." Aside from getting a new head, what am I supposed to do? Is there some trick I'm not aware of?
Actually, different helmets of the "same size" can really vary. Your best bet is to go someplace and try on as many as you can before buying. That way you'll get the fit you need. Just don't use a lot of Dippety Doo that morning.
Well, it needs to be snug. Especially when brand new. After wearing it for a while, the foam will crush somewhat and loosen up a bit. Get a salesman that knows what he's doing help you with the fit.
I wear an extra small helmet. I have ridden through the winds of Wyoming , MT and South and North Dakota.
What I have found out is that sometimes you need to make sure that it is good and tight around your neck. If there is any play in it on very windy day the wind can lift you right off your bike.
Do agree that different makes of helmets can have a different fit for the same size. Try on some other helmets by different makers. That can also make a difference.
