[QUOTE=KBFXDLI;5322281]Hey Fred...Glad you are Ok...forget the bike HD will make more. But like Gumby said "Welcome" to the "I crashed my bike and lived to tell about it" club. I am a platinum member The one thing I can definitely say about rash is that in the long run....road rash makes wearing a leather jacket comfortable on a hot Summer day.

As for the guy ragging on you about your crash....well maybe he has never made a mistake......yet.

The very best and most skilled riders I know have all crashed their bikes at one time or another. That is part of their education process and all take it VERY seriously as I know you now do. All of us realize how lucky we are.

Reply: I definitely take riding and it's rewards and pitfalls more seriously. I will never mock those who wear chaps etc. I will be one of them. If you've been down, no explanation is necessary. I so appreciate all the good wishes. I did not think I needed a slice of humble pie, but apparently someone thought better I'll try to get some pics up Tuesday. Pretty boring stuff, but maybe some educational value?

Glad to hear you're alright Fred ... thanks for sharing your lesson and being the gentlemen. This really reminds all of us that our contact patch is really pretty small. I posted several incidents on other forums and suggested a lessons learned area, some have created it making it a good place to read about things we should all be familiar with; high side, low side (your case) and how to avoid them. Hope you feel better soon. Ride safe Bro.

The answer to your question is yes. It was a gut level decision without time to mull over the consequences. It was a simple matter of putting distance between myself and the bike. Hope I didn't open a can of worms...

Repeat the same mistakes, possibly.

Of course, the reality is that rubber gets better traction than chrome - so the old "logic" of intentionally laying the bike down to avoid an accident, or to avoid a worse accident, never made sense.

I throw that out there with the idea there are less experienced riders who will read this thread - to make the point it is almost always faulty logic.

Then again, unless one knows every circumstance and detail, it is impossible to second guess what one should have or might have done in a given situation. In your case, your choice would seem to have been possibly the best choice in saving you from more serious injury - but, even then, it is difficult to know.

Any time we go down, and survive, we learn something from it. When we share the experience with other people, they have the potential to learn something from it. I appreciate you doing so.

I'm glad you came out fairly well, without major injury or worse. I hope that's the last time you ever go down. Once is more than enough.

ever hear the phrase, rubbing salt in an open wound?
I don't see the guy trying to blame the cage, I see him posting about his accident and how thankful he is, he ain't dead. Seems like he has a real first hand knowledge about following too close, so why rub it in?? You want your buds to kick you in the *** when you make a painful mistake??? No, it hurts enough as it is. So leave it be.

Hey D Bag, where in his post did he blame the driver of the car for the accident? When did anybody else blame the car driver? Talk about morons...you're their leader.

To the OP, glad you're OK and hopefully lesson learned.
