Default Selling a bike on my own

I have a bike that I am thinking of selling on my own (or, at least trying to). I have never done this before, and I have one question.

Of course, I would have to be letting people that I have never met before come over to my place to look at it. Should I let people take the bike for a test ride if they ask? What do most other people do when they sell a bike by themselves?

Thank you to all who take the time to reply.

Ask yourself what you would expect if you were the potentail buyer.
There's no way in hell I'd buy a bike without riding it first. But, I've never asked to ride a bike without having the cash in hand to pay for it.

I sold a bike this spring. I say no way for a test ride. If they dump it or hit something it would be a big loss to you.

I've heard MANY others say, "No way can yoiu ride this." I agree with you though - can you imagine buying something without a test ride??????? No chance, no way, no how without that test ride.

Let them test drive it. Tell them that all it takes is a deposit for your full asking price and if they wreck it they bought it. Tell them you'll also give them a deposit slip stating that.

This is one of those areas where you need to research the laws of your state. In some states you as the owner of the vehicle being sold would be held responsible for any accidents and injury's, in other's it is the test rider. Having a written agreement stating that the test rider is responsible for any and all damages works in some states not others.

That being said it is up to you, I would never buy a used vehicle with out a test drive period.

Also depending on the asking price remember most people will not have money in hand but will need to get a loan.

I test rode a Road King for my neighbor before he bought it from an individual selling it. I guess it is a matter of trust, because I would have mixed feelings on whether or not to let a potential buyer ride a motorcycle that I was selling.......There is always a chance that something negative could happen.....
