Default Cold feet

I went for a six hour ride today. I was around 45 degrees out. My bike has foward control so my feet right in the wind. After about an hour my feet started to freeze. I had three pairs of socks and good riding boots on still no dice. I was thinking of the Gerbings boot inserts, but I don't want to waste my money. What do you guys do to keep your feet warm.

Sock liners, wool socks, good boots.

FYI, three pairs of socks is probably too much constriction. Or too much heat build up because they cant breathe. They start to sweat and actually get colder faster that way.

Uhh... I moved to Arizona. That solved most of my frozen body part problems.

That is the one part of my body that I've never had get cold... I've ridden in 30 degree weather (not for 6 hours) with forward controls the only thing that freezes on me is my hands i need to get better gloves.

When I was stationed at Fort Drum, NY, thick wool socks and thick boots with gore-tex liners made it though -20 degrees without frostbite. These weren't riding conditions, just working conditions in the field. Riding in northern VA hasn't required the wool socks or liners yet (above zero weather).

I keep some of those packets of instant heat in my saddlebags that I got in the hunting section of Wal Mart. Never had to use them but I figure they don't weigh anything so they're good for an emergency. They stay hot 6 or so hours.
