I may be able to help you being that I wear a 3 piece patch and live in Oregon. I'll PM you my thoughts on this.

The PGR is not a MC. However, the COCs in a couple of states have stated that the PGR can not wear it's back patch within those states. In Oklahoma, an issue was raised due to color (blue and yellow) matching that of a local MC. A PGR member with an attitude had a run in with a MC member of that MC. Now the patches don't even look remotely alike, except for the colors. Because of this incident, the COC (organization of many clubs, each having an equal vote) voted to NOT allow the PGR in Oklahoma to wear the back patch, even at PGR events. The PGR has no choice but to comply and has instructed it's membership to not wear the patch.

The point of this is, it doesn't matter if you are trying to form a MC. It doesn't matter if a patch you wear is a 3 piece, or a 1 piece. And it doesn't matter if you think a MC can own it's colors or the color of it's colors. What matters is that you don't act a fool if confronted. But, some of you will anyway.

Ride your rice burner thru North Hollywood, Ca. while wearing the wrong "color" and see what happen's. I stayed out there for awhile and I'm tellin you, it's not a game. Notice: folks from "big city's" older than 18 have not replyed to this thread. Because they know the rules....
I guess being 46 from San Diego doesn't count

MC's can do what they want but they shouldn't force their "rules" on people that are not part of the club. I know that won't happen. I'm just expressing my opinion on the topic.
I should just be quiet here and move along here, but I wont. I see exactly where you're coming from with your points. But it's very obvious you don't understand 1%ers . You see, what you and I see as fair, or rules, or rights. They don't . These guys join clubs for protection, love, power, etc. Once they make it in, the only thing that matters is The club, and it's members. Not established laws of society, or communities, or even the constitution. The laws/rules you and I live by no longer matter to them, even though they still matter to us. I don't admire clubs like the Hell's Angels, Monguls, etc. A lot of those guys are real bad people. But I would respect their territory, and their colors. I wouldn't be afraid of them if I ran into them in a bar, because I'd give them no reason to f*ck with me. Same as a patch. Weather I liked doing it or not, I'd honor the request of theirs to not wear it. Call it fear, if you want. I call it being smart. I learned a long time ago , you're not going to win every fight....So choose them wisely.

You know I have been riding for 5 years now. I used to be fearless and ride out to parts out in the backcountry by myself, just for the joy of the ride. Being totally ignorant as to what is really out there.

It really sucks now for me to know that there are all these 'rules' and such. I know they are true, but they suck. I am a free spirited woman and I want to ride free- but there is no doubt in my mind that doing so can end me up into some serious trouble I'd rather not deal with. Why does it have to be so ??
