Default Blacking out Lindby Crash Bars

Has anyone done this or thought about it? I can't afford a powdercoat right now, but was thinking about sanding them down and flat blacking them with some clear coat on top. Then I can do my floorboards and maybe my exhaust.Name: d81feea5.jpg

As long as you can keep everything smooth that should work for awhile until you can get the dough for the powdercoating.

Don't really know exactly but I seem to remember some postings here that said it was really not that expensive.

Dude, we are in the car and bike customization capital of the world here in So Cal. There's got to be a 1000 places.

I'd try the oldest, craggiest, hairiest dude in the shop or parts dept at your HD dealer and ask for a reference.

the best way to remove the chrome would be to find a plating shop and have them reverse the process

or....

"but the simplest and safest way of de-chroming anything is to have none conductive tub (i.e. plastic) that will accept your item to be de-chromed , fill to cover with water and throw in a couple of heaped handfulls of ordinary household soda crystals put the item you want de-chromed in this solution with a lead from a battery (6 or 12 volts) positive terminal , attach the negative lead from the battery to an old junk piece of clean metal and put in bath , not touching and leave for a few minutes , this will only remove chrome"

Hydrochloric acid will remove the chrome, and leave the underlying nickle and copper base metal

P.S. Wildwood makes a great home powdercoating kit, all you need is a used oven. A couple of guys on the ZRXOA.com board have bought the kit and have a nice little cottage industry powder coating stuff. Lots of colors available too. mY ONLY CONCERN WITH POWDER COATING IS THE HEAT REQUIRED TO DO IT CAN ANNEAL SOME METALS.

You can probably make the paint thing work until you can get it powder coated. But, it's going to be a lot of work. And, you get to do the prep all over again when you get ready to powder coat it. But, I like the idea.

If you like black pipes, you may want to consider the black Paul Yaffe X-Pipes. A buddy of mine has them on an '02 Fatboy and they look awesome.

Black will be the cheapest color option (popular industrial color) and if you are not in a rush - you can prob work out a deal with coater telling them to put it in with another Black run.
