Default Other V-Twins

I stopped by the local Big Dog/American Ironhorse dealership yesterday to grab a beer and get out of the sun for a few minutes. As I was walking around looking at the bikes, I came across an American Ironhorse Texas Chopper.I liked the look of the bike and it was plain black with no graphics. So for s&g I decided to inquire about the price. With no money down, which of course I would put some down, at 4.99 financing, I would be looking at 439.00 a month for 9, yes I said 9, years. My wife could'nt care less but since I'm now somewhat "fiscally responsible" I just can't see it.What do you out there in forum-land think.

I like my Outlaw, but paying out $50k total is a bit much. If you could put down enough to get the financed part to 20 and do 60 months, that payment would be better for you. Wife must not want to ride, though. Those are solo bikes.

Personally I couldn't afford that kind of payment. It all really depends on your income and finacial ability to afford the bike. If you can handle it and will get that much enjoyment out of it. go for it.

Nine years is an awfully long time to be straped with 439.00 payment. There ain't no way I would ever pay $48k for any motorcycle.

As a good friend of mine says: it's only a number. If you want it and can afford it, go for it. You only go around once.

IMO that's a big chunk to swallow for 9 years [&:] And personally if I was gonna spend that kind of money on a bike it wouldn't be on a chopper.

Nine years? A lot of that payment is going to be interest. If you bust that bike in an accident and it gets totalled, you'll never get that money out of the insurance. You will be what is called "upside down" in the deal. If you're fiscally responsible, that's a no-brainer, at least IMHO.

Have to get (more expensive) gap insurance, where they eat the loss if a wreck occurs. Could be paying over $1800/yr just on insurance to get that though.

Just an opinion BUT..I ride with a buddy who has a chopper made by the largest "custom bike/chopper" company which I will not mention as this is a negative comment. He usually rides his RG but of the last four times he has taken chop on one of our rides it has developed situations. Once it was a loud squeek from the rear axle area, once it started flowing front brake fluid, at ROT last year the starter relay decided to never disengage, I disconnected it for him whenever we started it/connected it to restart. My point is you may find you resent the bike/builder quality nine weeks let alone nine years after purchase. We all grouse about our various HD dealers but there is one on every corner and there is usually a known fix for whatever does break. Personally, IF i was willing to put up with the work involved with riding his bike just for the looks it gets, I would buy a slightly used bike and let someone else suffer the crazy resale depreciation. Heck, you only go around once but that is some big money.

I guess if you finance ANYTHING for NINE years you're asking someone to shove it up your a$$. A friend of mine bought a Texas Chopper last year for $24000 cash out the door. Now if my math is correct, that would be ~275 for nine years, @ 5.00%, with nothing down. That would come to a little less than $6000 in interest.

Something about your numbers doesn't sound right, unless as stated previously, that includes some ridiculous insurance premiums and some dumb extended warranty.
