after all 6 pages i read all i can say is I have already decided that if and when the day comes when the dealer tells me what your getting told. I will tell them throw all the pcs back in the box and iam on my way with the trailer. If iam spending $4,000 dollars then iam coming out of an indy shop with a 100Hp 100torque plus motor iam not coming out with a factory rebuild.
That response is why I posted. Thank you for summarizing what many have said. Another poster suggested Freedom Cycles and I will contact them as well as any others before having the dealer (Corona Harley) perform the reman exchange. And thank you all (with one exception) for your constructive replys!
my buddy in ohio does motors and rebuilds and i have talked to him for the same price hd wants you can build one hell of motor and others will confirm that here.
the cause of wear on the tensioners is there is a sharp edge(s) or a burr on the chain link (s). I know a guy who dulled the edges of the chain on a belt sander and solved his tensioner woes., and he used amsoil v twin.
I am guessing it started making the noise around the 40,000 mile mark...If you own a pre 07 that hasn't been upgraded...have it checked...A lot of dealers haven't included this into their check ups because it wasn't in the service schedule and was ignorant of the situation until tensioner failures started showing up around the 30 to 40,000 mile mark...So have them checked...This thread might save some of your pre 07 engines.
I dont know if anyone thought about this...If you buy a new Twin Cam Ultra Glide, for $25000...and the engine fails at 50,000 miles. You just paid 50 cents per mile to ride!
That is damn expensive.
Truth about the tensioners hurt you too much? Then don't check them!
Blow it up and then "cry" that your motor tore up in under 50 k miles.
I posted pictures of low miles worn out tensioners to help those that wanted help.
Like I said: Bite me! (Harley Brotherhood?) Where? Certainly not here.
