I had to change my tensioner at 70k it was an easy job. It easyer to change them then to keep checking them. As for the bottom falling out on his motor is because sat for long time before rides.
I can't believe it. The dealer says due to multiple internal problems I need a remanufactured engine. They have offered to show me the damage step by step as it was disassembled so I'm inclined to trust them.Bottom line is they say it either "just wore out" or it may have come off the line as a bad apple. Of the 50K miles on my 2006 Heritage probably 45K were freeway miles. Dealers have always serviced it on schedule and I never abused the bike. Has anyone else had a similar issue? Did you contact Harley and if so what was their response. Having just got a $6K tax bill the $4-5K for the engine is not pocket change. In retrospect I blame myself for not buying another metric at the time (5 year/unlimited mile warranty at no additional cost was available plus other previous problems with the bike) and I guess I'm just feeling burned - sorry for the rant.
This still sounds like a phony story to stirr chit up.

"Just wore out"? Am I the only one who has NEVER heard a dealer use that line to describe a failure?
We've been had by a metric Troll again,...... face it, we've been snookered.

Ed - you may have not noticed but I've been a member since 2005 when I joined this site in preparation for purchasing a new bike. Reviewing my posts you'll note that I have never posted anything "troll like" before so why would I start now? I'm just relaying what the service guy told me over the phone. As I've never blasted anyone on any forum group in which I participate (boats, planes, etc.) I will not say anything negative now. Again, thanx to all who responded positively.
Most of the people bottom ends go bad from the old people trying to Lug there motor all the time with out runing there bike hard. So many think if you baby it Lugging the engine is how they sound better but is not very good for the back lash of the engines is doing them problems. With the low RPM's they have low oil pressure a will burn there bearings.
