He just wants to be told the cam tensioners were the problem so he can be right. Heck, that's the only thing that could cause engine failure in his mind. Funny how everytime faaaaaaast ed gets in on a thread, it ends up getting childish. To the OP, keep us posted with what you find out and good luck. Who knows, you may end up in better shape when its all done with.

You can't win a argument or even make a point when Faaaast Ed is posting on a thread. If you make any sense at all, He will revert to name calling. That is what he does best!

Dealers have always serviced it on schedule and I never abused the bike. Has anyone else had a similar issue? Did you contact Harley and if so what was their response. Having just got a $6K tax bill the $4-5K for the engine is not pocket change. In retrospect I blame myself for not buying another metric at the time (5 year/unlimited mile warranty at no additional cost was available plus other previous problems with the bike) and I guess I'm just feeling burned - sorry for the rant.

Saw a used TC on ebay for $1500.

With the low RPM's they have low oil pressure a will burn there bearings.
While waiting on the details via fax from the dealer thought I'd respond by saying until my b-day this past January I would open it up at least once a month to 100 mph. I like to run at 80 mph during my 90 mile weekday r/t commute so I don't think that is babying it nor abusing it.

I will be contacting Freedom Cycles and Cycle Doctor for 2nd/3rd opinions and will post the results.

Since 2003 the bottom end is pretty much disposable. HD figured most would not be rebuilt or even get to 50,000 miles. HD figures if they fail most will replace with an aftermarket engine with more power (same money) anyway.

Just my two copperheads here. I've seen it twice with 2 other TC88's that wore out the tensioners and both had only one common denominator and that was that they were both overheated. The chains themselves were very hard to flex after they were removed which is why the tensioners wore out. I would seriously ask yourself if you sat in rally traffic a little too long or some other cause for a overheat issue.
