I'm 56 and after a lifetime of being a heavy duty mechanic my back is shot. I use an HD backrest 99.9% of the time. I had to bend it and tweek it to make it fit me just right but I can ride from here to eternity with it.
I have Mustangs with backrest on both bikes. They pull right out & are too easy to remove but I won't leave home without it. They make me feel like I slept in a Holiday Inn last night
My wife and I both put Ultimate seats with backrests on our Street Glides. I have been riding for 32 years and this is the best seat I have ever owned - bar none. And I sincerely love having a backrest.
I been thinking bout getting one, i've been looking at firehouse customs they look very comfortable and I've heard
good things about them. They bolt right on to, but they do not fold down. Price $155 plus shipping.

I put backrests on both my bikes. Adjustible one on my Road King and stationary one on the stock seat of the Heritage. I agree with the others, it is so much more comfortible riding with it. Feels like I can ride all day, way less fatigue. The backrest keeps you upright on the seat and you no longer have to hang on to the handlebars to stay in position on the seat. I went with the stationary on the Heritage because I wanted to keep the stock 105th anniversary seat.
I have the Corbin Gunfighter&Lady seat on my 1999 FXR2 with the removable rider's backrest. Unbeatable combination! Seldom ever take the backrest off. It is adjustable as well. No extra charge for the mounting as it is built right into the Corbin saddle for either the rider or the passenger, or both. Corbin is on the high side of the dollars but I love their saddles.
