Question Race Tuner???

I own a 2009 Street Glide (stock) and I am in the middle of replacing the pipes with Vance and Hines slip-ons and add a Stage I Air Cleaner. I have been told I need to purchase a race tuner to get the bike remapped. First off, Is this $460 purchase really necessary? Secondly, would a Vance and Hines Fuelpak serve the same purpose without the high dollar purchase? What would you guys recommend. Anything will help me decide. Thank you in advance.

I just got new pipes, Vance and Hines Softail Duals, and the mechanic recommended the HD Race Fueler. I think the upside is that if you do any future modifications to the motor, you do not need to get another tuner. My bike runs great with this set up, but I know there's many other riders who prefer other tuners.

I am not a mechanic by any means but the way I understand it is that if you change the intake (amount of air coming in) and the exhaust (the amount of air going out) then you have to make the ECM understand that these changes have been made otherwise it will continue to "signal" the engine to perform as if these changes have NOT been made thereby leading to poor performance. The PCV or racetuners allow you to make these changes to the ECM. I also understand that the stock ECM can be remapped or "flashed" to update the factory stock settings but I dont know how this is done or who can do it. Probably the Dealer and for $$$. I am contemplating the same thing on my 2010 StreetGlide but going with D&D FatCat 2into1 exhaust.

I put SERT after change pipes and A/C on my bike. I have like to different change at the cost of having SERT remapped every time. Now Vance and Hines fuel mangement sys. is like set by the number and your done. There no mapping and no dyno cost. My other bike I have change A/C and pipes but never change fuel mangement it work the same way with no problem.

I just installed Bub 7's true duals on my 08 FLHX. I had the battery disconnected during the install and reconnected it when I was finished. It runs great without any mods to my electronics!! No backfiring, popping or any of that BS. Runs great!! The O2 sensors provide the necessary feedback to the ECM and adjust the AF mixture. I'm going to do the Stage I big sucker the same way and then get some dyno numbers. Everybody is trying to sell something including dyno time (where they have done hundreds and hundreds of these parts combinations) when they already know the expected results.

I have the old SERT and love it. I sent it back to TTS Mastertune for the $100 upgrade and the new DIY Vtune software. Just got it back yesterday.

With my old SERT I bought a real killer dyno map from Latus HD and loaded it and it runs perfect. I'll run the Vtune 5-10 runs and see if I can tweak it even better. But if not I'll just re-load the old map.

That is the nice thing about the TTS system. You can keep changing maps to adapt to different mods or riding style or fuel economy.

You can do the pipes with no remap. But once you add the A/C you will be running very very lean and will most likely need to re-map.

SERT you can change alot of things, if you realy needed to change that much. Big one was Rev Limits and add a small bit of gas to a stock set up.

If all you are doing is Stage One the V+H fuel pack will work great.Don't let your Stealer tell you you need a Race Tuner. This is bull%^it. Buy a Fuelpac from V+H or better yet on the forum here and your bike will run great.Been there done that.
