Security system failure
Today I was heading out to go to Sturgis on the River in Davenport, Ia. The bike would not respond to the fob. I got the second one out that has never been used and still it would not respond. So I put in a new battery. Nope, that did not work.
I just entered my pin code to fire it up. But, I had several stops to make and it became a pain to keep entering the code. I'm 70 so it was luck that I still remembered the #.
Got out the om and it stated if the bike does not communicate with the fob go to the dealer. I got out the service manual to see it had more detail. The security system and the fobs are not mentioned anywhere in the manual.
I think that the receiver/antennae my be fried.
Has anyone had this issue and fixed it with out going to the dealer?

Mine doesn't even have buttons. And I only got one fob. You could try removing power. Unplug the main fuse. And see if that resets it.
Both the security module and the antennae can be replaced and the pin code can be entered back into the new module. But you must buy the Softail electrical service manual to know how to do that.
It does look like the rear wheel must come off and remove the lower plastic fender extension to get to the module location. I avoid having the dealer do anything but I will check on the price of the manual, module and the antenna first.
I just want to get to it first and rap it with an astronaut fine adjustment hammer.
You can disable the security even if you fobs are in working order. It is just in case you lose them so that you may start the bike and get home.
I am **** so when I replace a battery, I do check it first with a multimeter. Both the new and old batteries were up to snuff.
The bike battery checks out a 100% on a load meter also.
I would just let the whole thing go if you could disable the security permanently. But after disabling it, the system will rearm itself after you turn the bike off. I have not had the system on my newer bikes because for me the system is not very useful for the price.
My conclusion is that either the security module or the antenna is loose or bad.
