Around my place in Socal, i avoid Shell at all costs, id rather push my bike than run that crap.
I filled the tank last year with 91, and for the next three days i thought there was something wrong with my bike! at half tank I topped off with Mobil and it was golden.
I know Shell advertises Nitrogen blended fuel, why would someone put and inert gas in fuel is beyond my, basically they add something to take away something else, like real gasoline maybe!
Even in 1999 when i first moved to cali that stuff made my muscle cars run like *** too. They wont get any more $$$ from me!
Years ago I had a Dodge Van with a little 318 c.i. in it. It ran like shat on Shell and pinged and overheated. On Mobile or Exon it was fine. All were regular grade that I used. To this day I tend to avoid Shell though the few times I've used in on my '91 Glide I didn't notice any difference though used the highest grade of course.
funny I saw this. I filled up with Shell high test (91 octane in California) and my bike ran like crap, pinging on acceleration. I'm going to top off with Chevron tomorrow and see what happens.

Funny, I had that same experience years ago with a 318 in a car. Never have had a problem with super unleaded tho.
it all comes from the same depot. i don't get it. here we go again
Indeed. However, that gasoline gets pumped into different tanks at different stations. It could be condensation in that particular station's tanks and a malfunctioning or poorly maintained condensation trap, or particle filter. These problems are usually found to be the fault of an individual station and not the brand as a whole.
Here in Minnesota almost all of our gas has that 10% ethenol in it. All my 2 & 4 wheel vehicles get less mileage because of it. I'm assuming they also make less power too. The local politicians were talking about ending the subsidies to the corn Farmers. I hope that happens but I'm not holding my breath... Just another government program set up to benefit a few at the expense of many. That said, I've had no issue with Shell gas in particular. I buy the least expensive with the highest octane in it. The bikes run fine.
I have the same problem with Shell premium, first time it didn't click then I filled up at another station same thing lots of pinging tried a couple other station same. now no more Shell for me. I know there are different blends required across the country but I don't know why Shell fuel would causes pinging but they advertise they add agents that will clean you engine.
