I use a backpack a lot of days that I ride to work. Carry my lunch in it, and on days that start out cool then turn warm, I can put my jacket in it for the ride home. It's just an ordinary backpack I bought at Academy years ago. I use it when I need it, and when I don't I leave it home.
I tried a back pack and decided against it. I use a fabric bag that bunji crods onto my passenger seat. It's big enough to carry a rainsuit but usually I use it to carry home any junk that I buy along the way.
I wear a backpack every time I ride my bike to work. Hard hat, vest, tools, clipboard with drawings, sammich, etc. Sometimes it's a little bulky, but so what. And looks? Who shiv's a git?
That or I have to drive my truck. And if the weather behaves, thats a no-brainer!
I got this hydration backpack from Cabelas for $25. It is really small but it doesn't catch any wind or flap around at all. I took out the water bladder and use to it carry my lunch and a water bottle to work or wherever, so light I am always checking to see if it is still there.
Here is a messenger bag that I prefer to use because it's much easier to put on and off with a single strap. I also put the patch on it to add the "Harley" look because I got too much crap from my friends.
PS
Here's the 30" of snow we got last week. We can finally see the road 6 days later.
