I use a camelbak backpack and just bungie it to the rear fender, the little stock sissy bar keeps it from sliding off the back. I knew that shorty sissy bar would come in handy when I was first looking at the new wide glides.

Yeah I use a backpack when going to work. I have saddlebags, and a roll bag that goes on the fender rack, but for work I need a portable desk so a place for laptop, pens, files, etc is important and a backpack works much better than saddle bags. I don't use the backpack for non work rides.
As far as how it looks....screw em, I get to ride to work.

Oh Snap!

The biggest problem with a backpack is the sweating and weight on your shoulders. It will work, but there might be some better options. that tbag falcon thing is pretty cool.

Anyway, haters be hatin'...ignore them. Tell anyone who asks that you use it because it is hard to fit a Tec-9 and a brick of cocaine in your pants.

I also suggest that the most retarded look of all is that of grown men who give 2 smooth $&^%$ what other people look like! As long as you don't look like this guy...

You asked for my opinion....ditch the backpack idea and, as was mentioned earlier, get a set of throw-overs.
Ditch the backpack because it makes your back sweat, moves around like a squirrely little girl and can't carry as much as a set of throw-overs.
Throw-overs carry more, keep the centre of gravity lower and...if you are into it...look better than a back-pack.
JMHO
But feel free to disregard my opinion and go with what you really want.
