Down at the local Harley dealer today setting up an appointment to have some Andrews 37g cams put in my 05 Ultra. My bike has S/E pipes and high flow air filter with the stage one download. I would think that the ECU would need to be remapped with the new cams but the guy at the Harley dealer said no it didn't. So I ask all you fine folks that know more than me. Is the guy at the Harley dealer full of $hit or am I?
If you put the new cams in without remapping/dynotune the bike, it might run but not nearly as good as it could. If you don´t tune the bike after a cam swap, you might as well leave it stock.
The whole point of changing cams is to get more air into the cylinders. More air is useless without more fuel. So, yea, you need a remap. In the good old days you would add a larger jet to the carb so that the extra air rushing through would draw more fuel.
You might want to consider having someone with a clue working on your bike.
Find a new dealer. Unless the cam specs are almost identical to stock in every conceiveable dimension you have to retune it.
I added a very mild 21G geared cam set without adding a tuner (stage 1 only since new). The bike performs great, with no decrease in MPG and substantial increase in perceived power, but I probably will add a tuner just the same.
The difference between a 21G and 37G is substantial. I doubt the bike would run properly without a tuner and believe you're getting bad advice from the dealer.
The bike is running lean even with the dealer download put a FM on it and it will not run lean will run alot cooler and better,I have good luck with the PCV

Thanks guys! I considered getting a PC from fuelmoto, and guess I will just bite the bullet and do it. I kind of figured that, was just looking for some second opinions. The closest Harley shop dyno is 2 hours away. There is a dyno here in town but it is at the yamaha shop, however I do believe they are a PC authorized tuner. Hopefully fuelmoto's map will get me really close and if it needs some tweakin then I will take it in.
