Default Road Glide Fairing Problem

I removed the outer fairing cover on my 06 FLTRI to replace my Blown Harley Speaker with new Hog Tunes. Only to find the Radio housing bracket was wearing right through the fairing. Has anyone else seen this situation? All the alignment appears good. I removed the corners to relieve the contact of the Housing and fairing. Put back together with Hog Tunes Installed to now encounter a Wicked vibration rattle. I didn't remove enough material and now the fairing was just barely touching the radio bracket. I removed the fairing again and had to seriously remove the corners of the radio housing. I can't believe I'm the only one to of had this Problem. I'm serious the fairing is just about warn through.

This is a known problem. I think there is a big thread on roadglide.org all about it. Apparently about 2 out of 3 Road Glides suffer from this issue.

Here's what I did

1.Removed Roadglide fairing to fix worn brackets, leaking water in to fairing, rubber trim falling off, windshield vibration, windshield bolts popping off, rubber grommets F**ked, and wear marks in windshield from rubbing against inner fairing.

2. Took said fairing and tossed it

3. Bought batwing fairing, installed it and LOVED IT. No more fairing issues.

4. As much as I loved the RG and the superior handling and wind resistance of that fairing I could not get past the inferior workmanship.

The pic in my sig is my bike now, it is a new model I like to call a FLFURG (take a guess what the furg stands for)

Heres a couple links.........http://www.hdforums.com/forum/tourin...ring-wear.html
http://www.hdforums.com/forum/tourin...-pictures.html

The top of the radio bracket actually supports the top of the outer fairing. You have to be careful on where/how much is removed if you go that route.
I did not remove mat'l on my fix.I bolted some 1/2" thk. plastic on the sides of the bracket flush with the top of bracket so the fairing would have a wider surface to sit on.
I can post some pics if anyone wants to see.

Your not the only one. I have read about it on this forum and even saw pictures how that stock set up doesn't fit right and wears on the fairing. Have to do a search to locate the other thread and see what else was discussed. It must have been about 2 months ago.

Guess I was posting a few minutes late ... I see the info is now just above. Man you guys are fast on the button!

Ground down the corners on my radio bracket and now I have a wicked vibration when I use the stock tall windshield. I need to go back in and cushion it somehow.

The 2011's have some sort of piece of rubber or plastic that goes over those edges now. It's in the factory parts book and I ordered mine yesterday.

The problem is, you did not solve anything. All you did was trade one set of problems for another. Search out broken brackets for bat-wing fairings.

When I had the fairing off for a speaker upgrade, I just put some rubber edge molding on the radio bracket. I have had the fairing off several times and there is no additional damage (small rubbing marks from original mounting have not gotten worse).

I did the same thing, but used vacuum tubing to put on the bracket and stopped the rubbing. I have not noticed any other issues with the fairing.
