2007 Street Glide....Ijust started hearing a rattle in my fairing yesterday. I believe it is up around my right side mirror. Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this. I am fixing to take it in for the 5,000 mile service and let them fix it then. I considered tackling it myself and putting in some Hog Tunes while I am in there but decided to let them look at it since I need the servic anyway. Any rattled fairings from any other riders?
We've seen a few - sometimes it's plastic rubbing on plastic and there's little that can be done - cars have the same problems in their dashes. Also, we've seen a couple inner fairing bracket supports that have broken from what looked to be metal fatigue - the brackets were located near the radio installation area. Hope you find it - it can drive you nuts after a while.
I've had my fairing off a few times, i suggest that you pull the headlight and use a flashlight to look inside for any wear marks. you may not see the cause, but if you do, it'll save you a lot of time related to pulling the fairing. I don't know if they usually pull the fairing on the 5K check; ask if they do and if you can see the bike while its off.
if it were mine..since it is still under warranty...i would let the shop take care of it. My first guess is a broken fairing bracket as Ted said. However, if you are a decent wrench, pull the fairing outer and poke around. It only takes five minutes to get the fairing off and then back on.
also check the 2 screws that attach your console to the tank. Open the gas lid and there are 2 screws there. I spent weeks trying to find a rattle in my fairing until I looked there......
