stripped header bolt (phillips head), need help please!
How much you got in this bolt right now counting mig welder and all? There is a time when it is cheaper to just drill off the head and take it to the machine shop, or drill and tap it yourself.
When you weld that nut to it,if it does not work, the nut is now another obstical.

The ol' "I can do this" thing.
I used to tear apart mill motors, huge electric motors from the steel mills.
6 - 7 thousand pounds was a medium sized motor. They are used in some real corrosive environments and we often ran across bolts that "thought" they were a permanent part of the motor.
Eventually I got to where they could not whip my ***, and it became extremely rare that I had to cut the heads off of any of them.
The "challenge" became kind of a game to me.
Where I saw a lot of bolts that resembled the OP's bolts, were on the traction motors, the ones that they use on Metra and other mass transit people movers. They were always froze, and the red hot trick turned them into childs play. Not even a challenge after that (yet impossible to budge prior to heat).
Also, don't forget, there is a lot of extra work involved pulling the heads. Unless he plans to beef up his motor, it would benefit him to avoid having to do that extra wrenching.
