I believe you. No one would go to this much trouble for such a minor flaw. Personally, I'd have it replaced. It has no value and it's easy to fix or duplicate. In other words if it was valuable, everyone would do it.
BTW.. back in the early 80's i was working at a GM/Chev dealership and we had a Monte Carlo come in with Monte badges on one side and Gran Prix badges on the other..
Yep, my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cylinder had a V6 emblem only on the driver side. It does happen.
